For Charles and Sharon Atkins, owning a business is about more than building a successful operation. Since opening their PuroClean franchise in May 2014, they’ve remained focused on something much deeper: giving back to the community. What started as a three-person operation has grown into a thriving business with a full-time staff, a fleet of vehicles, and a lasting impact on the people they serve.
When the Atkins family first began exploring business opportunities, they were drawn to PuroClean because of the brand’s mission and values. After speaking with several brand ambassadors, they were convinced it was the right fit. As they explain, PuroClean “was the best franchise choice for our family.”
Their instincts proved right. Today, PuroClean is recognized as one of the best franchises to buy, offering proven systems, essential services, and a strong foundation for growth. The Atkins family not only found a franchise they could believe in, but a business that aligned with their desire to serve others.
Support That Feels Like Family
One of the most important elements of the PuroClean experience is the extensive franchise support system. Charles and Sharon describe the marketing team as “awesome,” and say the staff at the Home Office makes them feel like family. They often turn to the Home Office when they need help, knowing they’ll either provide the answer directly or connect them with the right person.
This level of support has allowed the Atkins family to localize marketing initiatives and grow in ways that make sense for their community. They’ve participated in PuroClean Cares®campaigns like Adopt A Classroom, where they provided classroom supplies; the Season of Giving, where they distributed seasonal gift bags and more; and the Superhero campaign, through which they honored a local non-profit director. These opportunities not only help their neighbors but also strengthen their reputation as business owners who care.
A Culture of Leadership and Service
PuroClean’s strong franchise culture has also been a driving force for Charles and Sharon. As longtime advocates of Servant Leadership, they see their business as more than just a way to earn income.
“This is not just a business to us,” they explain. “It is a part of our ministry.”
Their team is guided by a shared goal: giving back to the community and ensuring that every client is taken care of, no matter the need.
That same care extends to their internal team. One of their top tips for business owners is to treat employees like family.
“In order to build a strong team, treat your team like family, pay them well, and be understanding when situations arise in their life. Realize each person is different and each has their own special talents,” they shared.
This people-first approach has helped them build a strong, loyal team, and it shows. What began with just Charles, their son, and one technician now includes five full-time technicians, several part-time employees, an office manager, an accounts payable assistant, a business development representative, an in-house mechanic, and leadership roles including CFO and COO.
Full-Service Solutions with Real Impact
As their business has grown, so has their capacity to support the community. Their fleet now includes a tractor-trailer, allowing them to respond quickly and take on more complex jobs. In addition to cleanup and mitigation services, they offer full property reconstruction, helping families and businesses recover completely after a disaster.
Their work extends beyond the job site as well. Charles and Sharon are deeply involved in their local business community, which allows them to connect local businesses and build relationships that benefit everyone involved.
“We want our customers to not see us as just a business making money, but a business that gives back to our community,” Sharon explains.
Living the Mission Every Day
From the beginning, Charles and Sharon have used their PuroClean franchise as a platform for giving back to the community. Through volunteer work, financial support for nonprofits, and a commitment to service in everything they do, they’ve built a business that reflects their values.
PuroClean continues to attract like-minded Franchise Owners who want to make a difference. With its strong franchise model, excellent support, and culture rooted in service, it offers a unique opportunity for individuals who care about both business success and community impact.
