Here’s what you’ll learn when you read this article:
- Ryan Back, a PuroClean Franchise Owner in Minnesota, shares his restoration industry experience within the company and broader industry. He believes that the main difference between PuroClean and other property damage remediation companies is the customer experience PuroClean delivers.
- Back chose PuroClean due to its Servant Leadership principles, and the comprehensive training provided to Franchise Owners. He also values the support from fellow Franchise Owners and the Home Office Support Team.
- The blog states that the demand for damage restoration services is expected to increase due to the growing number of natural disasters and severe weather events.
After 20 years in the maintenance industry dealing with property management companies and commercial facilities, Ryan Back decided it was time to branch out and get some restoration industry experience on his resumé. In 2021, he became the Franchise Owner of PuroClean of Waconia, in St. Bonifacius, Minnesota, about 30 minutes west of Minneapolis-Saint Paul. And he hasn’t looked back since.
As a PuroClean Franchise Owner, Back knows potential customers have many choices when it comes to damage remediation companies. But he holds Waconia close to his heart, and he’s committed to giving back to the community by helping his neighbors when they need him most.
“We all suck water, and we all save properties, and we all relatively get paid about the same for what we do in our markets. So really, the only difference is the customer experience,” Back says.
After looking at various options in the restoration industry, Back ultimately landed on PuroClean because of the franchise culture that the company has fostered over the years.
“PuroClean fundamentally embraces true Servant Leadership principles,” he says. “It’s displayed in how they train and how they’re always striving to do more for their Franchise Owners.”
The restoration franchise training Back speaks of is truly industry-leading. Whether they have tons of restoration industry experience or are just getting their foot in the door, PuroClean’s training programs help Franchise Owners become specialists in the latest damage remediation tools and techniques.
Before they open their doors, each new Franchise Owner receives three weeks of intensive training at the PuroClean Academy in Florida. This includes learning how to use state-of-the-art equipment in our 12,000-square-foot Flood House, which gives Franchise Owners real-life experience and exceptional proficiency with water damage remediation techniques. PuroClean’s Online Academy lets Franchise Owners and technicians master the latest in remediation technology around the rest of their busy schedules.
Support From All Sides
Another box that PuroClean ticked for Back is the franchise community that’s been cultivated and the sense of camaraderie between Franchise Owners. He even goes so far as to call it a “family.” He’s part of an Impact Group of fellow Franchise Owners who share their restoration industry experience and expertise with one another.
“My Impact Group, which includes other [Franchise] Owners and is led by a Regional Director, has been the game-changing recipe for success for me,” Back explains. “I don’t feel like I’m alone in running my business, and our group has become a support family for ideas and advice when new challenges arise.”
PuroClean’s franchise support system also includes guidance from team members at the Home Office, who are there to encourage and assist Franchise Owners through whatever business or technical obstacles might come up.
“PuroClean’s [Home] Office has set the tone from the beginning by supporting Franchise Owners through training, product development, sourcing of experts for us to learn from, and the leadership structure in its Regional Director levels,” says Back.
Looking Ahead
With natural disasters and weather events becoming more and more severe, the industry outlook for damage restoration shows these services will be in great demand in the coming years. Between 2020 and 2024, there were 115 disasters in the United States with damages totaling more than $1 billion each, including flooding, freezes, severe storms, and wildfires.
PuroClean gives its Franchise Owners the skills and knowledge to deal with fire, smoke, and water damage restoration; biohazard cleanup; and so much more.
Back’s biggest tips for business owners who have an aptitude for property damage restoration and are looking at a PuroClean franchise center around the people Franchise Owners surround themselves with. In 2021, he started with just himself and a marketer. Today, his team has 16 members and is still growing.
“Know what you’re good at and hire what you’re not,” he says. “Hire slow and fire fast; the right people will come eventually.”
