PuroClean is Turning Military Discipline into Business Success

Here’s what you’ll learn after reading this article:

  • The Veteran Fireside Discussion at the 2026 PuroClean International Convention highlighted how military service, leadership, and adaptability translate directly into successful entrepreneurship journeys.
  • Military veterans possess invaluable, highly transferable skills—such as mission-focused execution, decisive action, and resilience—that help them build strong companies and effectively lead teams.
  • The restoration industry and programs like PuroVet offer veterans a natural path to continue serving their communities as business owners and employers after their military careers end.

One of the most impactful moments of the 2026 PuroClean International Convention was the Veteran Fireside Discussion featuring PuroClean President and former U.S. Army Captain Steve White, Brigadier General (Ret.) Richard “Dick” Miller, U.S. Army National Guard, and Major General (Ret.) Cornell A. Wilson Jr., U.S. Marine Corps. The discussion highlighted how leadership, adaptability, and service continue to shape both successful military careers and entrepreneurship journeys.

General Miller reflected on lessons learned while leading more than 40,000 U.S. Army troops during operations in Afghanistan and how those experiences translate directly to veteran entrepreneurship.

“Veterans understand what it means to lead under pressure, adapt quickly, and accomplish the mission,” he said.

General Wilson expanded on that theme by discussing the importance of mission-focused execution, adaptability, and building organizations that can thrive in changing environments. Drawing from decades of military leadership experience, he explained that successful leaders understand how to develop talent, communicate a vision, and inspire teams to achieve goals larger than themselves.

Business ownership gives veterans a new way to lead,” said Major General (Ret.) Cornell A. Wilson Jr. “The discipline, accountability, and resilience developed in uniform do not disappear when service ends. They become the foundation for building strong companies, strong teams, and strong communities.”

The discussion repeatedly returned to a central theme: Veterans possess skills that are highly valuable in business, but many do not always recognize how transferable those skills truly are. Building on those leadership principles, the discussion explored why the restoration industry is a natural fit for many veterans.

Every day, veteran Franchise Owners across the PuroClean network help families and businesses recover from water damage, fire loss, mold contamination, and storm-related disasters. The work requires decisive action, strong leadership, problem-solving, and a commitment to serving others during difficult times.

As the discussion concluded, attendees were reminded that while military service may end, leadership does not. The ability to inspire others, solve problems, execute a mission, and make a difference remains long after the uniform is retired.

That belief continues to guide the PuroVet Program, which combines a proven business model, industry-leading support, veteran-focused incentives, and a community built on shared values to help veterans continue serving in a new capacity—as business owners, employers, community leaders, and entrepreneurs.

For many in attendance, it served as a powerful reminder that the mission continues.
