Doug “Odie” SlocumU.S. Air Force Brigadier General (Ret.)
Veteran Leader | Fighter Pilot | Author | Advocate
Brigadier General (Ret.) Doug “Odie” Slocum brings more than 35 years of distinguished service in the United States Air Force and Air National Guard to his continued mission of serving and empowering others.
A command instructor pilot with more than 4,000 flying hours in the F-4, F-16, and A-10, General Slocum built his career around leadership, innovation, safety, resilience, and, above all, taking care of people. He has authored more than 250 lessons, textbooks, and professional publications and delivered more than 750 presentations and keynote addresses around the world.
Throughout his military career, General Slocum championed initiatives focused on leadership, organizational culture, suicide prevention, resiliency, and safety. His work included the development of programs designed to strengthen organizations by empowering individuals, encouraging innovation, and creating cultures in which people can perform at their best.
That philosophy became the foundation of Violent Positivity, General Slocum’s people-centered approach to leadership. At its core is a simple principle: leaders have no higher calling than caring for their people. Through his book, speaking engagements, and leadership work, he continues to challenge individuals and organizations to build stronger teams through trust, accountability, encouragement, and genuine commitment to one another.
Today, General Slocum brings that same commitment to the veteran community and PuroVet. He understands that leaving military service does not mean leaving behind the desire to lead, serve, build teams, and accomplish a mission.
Through PuroVet, General Slocum helps champion the next mission for veterans—connecting the leadership, discipline, resilience, and sense of purpose developed through military service with opportunities to build successful businesses and create meaningful futures after the uniform.
For General Slocum, veteran entrepreneurship is about more than business ownership. It is about continuing to lead, continuing to serve, and creating opportunities for veterans, their families, and the communities they call home.
The mission changes. The commitment to lead does not.

Frank Torre understands something every great leader learns: people come first. His commitment to veterans is not about recognition, it is about creating real opportunities, building confidence, and helping those who served find purpose in their next mission. That kind of leadership matters.
